Grand Trial against Kahuna Hala

Kahuna Hala didn’t hold back at all during our battle. His Crabominable and his Hariyama were worthy opponents against Torny, my Typhlosion. I guess, the fact that I only list one Pokémon here should tell you enough tho about the outcome. Yet let me give a bit more detail.

Referee Olivia, the Kahuna of Akala Island, declared our battle to begin and both, Hala and I didn’t waist a second to order our first moves. Torny and Crabominable clashed hard and instantly Crabominable was knocked out. Torny sure was serious to win this.

Before the Grand Trial against Kahuna Hala

So today I did face off in my first grand trial against Melemele’s Kanuhna Hala. But I want to write what happened before the Trial in it’s own post first as I don’t have the energy left to write the whole day’s worth of stuff that happened. So “part 2” will follow tomorrow!

I arrived in Iki Town around midday, as Hala requested from me. He was just coming out of his house when I walked past the battle field in the center of the town.
We did greet each other with “Alola” before he told me, that we would take the path to the north of the town, the Mahalo Trail, that would lead us up the mountain to the Ruins of Conflict. There, the Kahuna will always pray to the Tapu to watch over them in the upcoming grand trial.

He was however not alone. Olivia, the Kahuna of Akala Island was with him, as she introduced herself to me. Apparently Professor Kukui told every Kahuna about me, not just Hala. And she wanted to see that “handsome trainer” herself… Not that I mind a compliment, I’m just not used to ’em.
Also she had some news for Hala about other trainers that are currently on the Island Challenge, as well as that she offered to be the referee for today’s grand trial.

Kahuna Hala

Today I med yet another imposing figure of Melemele island, Kahuna Hala. I met him in Iki Town, a beautiful small village not too far away from Hau’oli City. I visited him in order to get his approval for the island challenge.

First of all however, Iki Town is so beautiful. To be honest, every town I did see here on Melemele Island looks just gorgeous. But this one is especially beautiful.
It has a very traditional look and as with every place here, is very inviting and colourful. It feels like it’s embedded into nature.
In the center of the town is a large stage where grand trials take place as well as other battle activities and festivals. I am looking forward to fighting there myself… But I’m jumping ahead.

Professor Kukui’s Dream

To be honest, I didn’t think I’d be posting things here every day. Yet so much happened today that I have to write it down not to forget. And first things first, Professor Kukui gave his okay, that I can write about it.

Early morning I headed eastward to a beach near Iki Town where Professor Kukui’s Laboratory is located. Jetlag didn’t hit me quite as hard as I feared. Actually it helped me to get up early very easily, although I always get up early anyway.

First time heading outside of the city made me realise how untouched and natural Melemele Island still is. You could think you’re the first person wandering these paths. The whole region of Alola is said to look as natural like this and I can hardly await to travel through it.
The ocean waves to the south were gently hitting the beautiful white shores, the lush jungle like forest to the left still seemed to be asleep but you could feel the presence of nightly active Pokémon silently watching your every move.
Far above me I could see someone riding on a Charizard, whose tail illuminated the quickly approaching dawn.

Alola!

Just a few hours ago I finally landed on Melemele island in Alola. What a gorgeous place this is! I’ve heard lots of stories about this place but none could prepare me for what actually awaited me here.

But let’s begin from this morning! Or rather yesterday… Time is still a bit messed up for me as the Alolan region is so far to the east of Johto. Jetlag surely will hit me hard tomorrow as it always does but I hope I will be able to meet up with Professor Kukui on time… But all later!

Everybody has a favour to ask… and an Egg?

For the last couple of months I was busy preparing for my upcoming Alola trip, as well as doing more battles in the World Coronation Series a.k.a. World Championships. It has been a few sluggish months with various hurdles that I didn’t expect… But I can finally see the end of my struggles and the dawn of a new adventure!
I really am longing go get out there, my Pokémon too.

Trying to build my online PokéDex

Hey! So you might be wondering when I will make the next update on my current travel plans. Right now I’m already part of the World Championship, currently places around 500 as the standings in this bracket switch pretty much daily. There was not a lot of time to get higher in the ranking as I am preparing for my next destination and both at the same time did slow down one another.

I’ve decided that my next destination will be the islands of Alola. Mainly to deepen my bonds with my Pokémon and prepare for a more active entry in the championship.
We are a great team, even more after our endeavour in Kalos and our first taste of Mega Evolution.

Product Photo

Recently I retired my trusty old PokéCom that was with me since the beginning as more and more services got unsupported. I guess it was time. I might just keep it with me just for good luck.
Now I got myself the new Rotom Phone with it the newest PokéDex directly integrated. This thing is quick and always ready, as well as fun. I got used to it very quickly and I’m happy that I can finally keep my Rotom close to me as an additional member of my team.

One should think though that the new PokéDex had a handy online function that everyone could just use freely. Well, it does but apparently only the regions professors are allowed to use the API.
Meaning I have to make my own online PokéDex if I want to show you my progress. That’s what I want to finish first before I head out to Alola.

Maybe I’ll head over there a bit sooner though as I want my Pokémon to get used to the different climate. But I won’t be starting the Alola Pilgrimage before I have the PokéDex ready.

Now for where I will write about the journey. I’m currently thinking I might will do a bit of a two way deal?
On one side I want to keep this blog up running.
On the other, my friend who’s helping me with the online PokéDex could integrate a blog into it so that I can write blog posts there alongside the PokéDex entries.

So I may will switch to a different website. I did already write about a few of my encounters on that other website. You can read them here.

The PokéDex will also be on that other website. So I might just switch over there entirely and will redirect this website. I’ll see! Maybe one day you’ll just end up on that other page instead of here ^^; Just a fair warning!

So then, soon I will head off to Alola. I’m already excited for what’s to come as is my entire team. We’ll have a great time over there, I’m sure of it!

Update February 2021

The PokéDex is now live on the other webside as well as here under PokéDex! I’m still planning to add more features to it but at least it’s a start~

The preperations for the Alola journey are also almost finished! I’ll tell you about them soon!
